2021 Congress Edition

The ENCATC Digital Congress is the only global event dedicated to the advancement of theory, education, research and practice on cultural management and policy. Due to the ongoing pandemic context, the Congress in 2021 is entirely digital with all activities organised online.

The Congress has become the cornerstone in the annual calendar for the cultural management and cultural policy community. Each year, educators and researchers from the cultural management and policy educational fields with cross-disciplinary interests connect with professionals, policy makers, artists and students. Together they work to address pressing issues, explore ground-breaking innovations, bridge the knowledge gap, promote research esteem and the evolution of pedagogy, and encourage steps to ensure significant improvements in this industry.

Responding to the needs of the sector, a timely topic is selected for each edition. In 2021, the theme is on “Artists in the spotlight! In search of new agendas for education and research in the cultural management and policy field”Leading experts from around the world are invited to speak on the theme during the Digital Congress’ dynamic online programme which is designed around 7 key elements: the Opening Session and Round Table, the Global Conversation, an interdisciplinary Policy Round Table, the Bauhaus Debate, the Annual Education and Research Session, the ENCATC Fellowship Award Ceremony, and the ENCATC Research Award Ceremony.

In order to reach the next generation of cultural managers and actors of the wider cultural and creative ecosystem, ENCATC has a pre-Congress programme that includes two activities on 18 October: the Young and Emerging Researchers’ Forum and the Cultural Policy and Management Emerging Professionals’ and Students’ Forum.

The Digital Congress results in video recordings and materials made available in the Reserved Area for Congress participants. To transform the vast knowledge shared at the Congress and as part of its legacy, ENCATC also produces several publications which include an e-book of Congress Proceedings, a new edition of the ENCATC Book Series on Cultural Management and Cultural Policy Education, as well as new issues of the European Journal of Cultural Management and Policy and of the /encatcSCHOLARS e-bulletin.

The Congress is made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of the ENCATC Digital Congress Steering and Scientific Committees. ENCATC is very extremely grateful for their support as they graciously volunteer their time, intellectual contributions, and experiences.
